Livestock Competitions

Whilst the championship prizes are very much sought after, all the exhibitors also use the show as a shop window, letting other breeders and farmers see the quality and style of their stock.

Currently we are arranging cattle stalling for over 900 cattle from 14 beef and 4 dairy breeds.  Around 1400 sheep will be seen at the show comprising 23 breeds, varying in type and size, from the hardy small Scottish island native animals to the very different breeds brought in from the European continent a couple of decades ago.

The Goat marquee is always popular with the public – and as well as being shown against each other for their looks, these milky ladies will be judged too on their ability to produce substantial amounts of quality milk.

The Cattle Hall is open to the public for the majority of the four days, with the exception of the short periods of time when large numbers of cattle are moving into the showing rings when it would possibly be unsafe to allow a mix of people and animals.

The Sheep and Goat marquees are always open during showground opening hours, so feel free to wander in and out at your leisure.  The stockmen will be happy to answer any questions that you might have.
