Show History
The Royal Highland Show is run by the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland which was founded in 1784 to promote the regeneration of rural Scotland.
The first Highland Show was held in 1822 in Edinburgh on a site now occupied by the Scottish Parliament.
After more than a century of moving to different locations throughout Scotland, the “Highland” put down its permanent roots at Ingliston on the western fringes of Edinburgh in 1960. Now known as the Royal Highland Centre, the showground occupies almost 300 acres.
The show is regarded as one of the UK’s top agricultural events. It is a stalwart of the Scottish agricultural calendar but is also Scotland’s biggest outdoor event attracting visitors of all ages for what is regarded as a great day out.
The 168th show will be held 19th - 22nd June.
