British Wool

British Wool: British Wool is a member organisation with the main objective being to provide a high level of service to members and maximize the value of their wool. British Wool’s important role and support to the UK sheep sector includes – Training – Accredited courses for shearing and wool handling in the UK - supporting the next generation in learning and developing a traditional rural skill. Depot Network – British Wool has a UK network of depots and drop off sites - providing a service to all members regardless of type and quality of wool produced, volume or location. Grading – Every fleece is individually graded which determines the grade and quality. Grading every fleece adds value as this separates the better quality from the poorer with the better quality wool achieving a higher price which is then returned to the member. Testing – All British wool is independently tested for micron, colour and dry yield before it can be sold at auction. Testing wool to international standards gives the buyers confidence in the high quality of British wool and in the product they are buying. Auction – The auction system has been a tried and tested method of selling products off the farm for generations with wool being no exception. British wool is sold across 20 auctions throughout the year which provides a steady supply of wool onto the market in a controlled way to maximise its value and reduce the risk around price volatility in the global market. Marketing & Promotion – Increasing demand for British wool secures the long term future of the fibre. As an organisation, British Wool works collaboratively with manufacturers, retailers and consumers to raise awareness of the unique characteristics and on the benefits of wool.

The MacRobert Trust

The MacRobert Trust is the proud keeper of an historic legacy, one that informs everything we do. The Trust is both landowner and charity, and we discharge both these duties within a modern context but with the philosophy of our benefactor, Lady MacRobert, at the heart of nearly every decision we make. Her legacy lives on through our continuing connection with the military, with the countryside and farming, and in our commitment to our charitable work, in particular our assistance to young people to help them achieve their potential no matter what disadvantages they may face.
