RHASS Dairy 26 (1)

Bright rosette designs and milk bottle masterpieces curated by primary and secondary school pupils from across Scotland have been shortlisted as part of a competition launched by the organisers of Scotland’s largest outdoor event and leading agricultural Show, the Royal Highland Show, which takes place 19th-22nd June.

The competition was launched by RHASS, the producers of the event, last month in partnership with the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET), to support this year’s Show theme of Education and Learning and RHET’s Year of Dairy, with the aim of placing skills, knowledge, and innovation front and centre throughout the Show.

Primary school pupils were invited to design a rosette that stands out from the crowd, with the winning entry being produced by Hazelden Rosettes and presented to the Dairy Champion from each section of the dairy classes. Secondary school pupils (S1- S4) were invited to design their own milk bottle brand with the winning design showcased at the Scottish Dairy Championships during the Show.

132 rosette designs were submitted from 12 of schools from across the country, while 47 milk bottle entries were received from four Scottish secondary schools.

The top ten shortlisted design entries from both competitions will be showcased across the four-day event.

David Tennant, Head of Royal Highland Show and one of the judges of the competition, said; “There are some truly talented pupils in Scotland! We have been so impressed by the entries we have received, from the bright colours used, to detailed responses pupils have written up about their designs.

“The chosen shortlisted designs really stood out from the crowd, and we hope the pupil artists who designed them can take great pride in knowing that their work will feature at this year’s Show, playing a part in a historically significant event for the agricultural and rural sector. We plan to announce the winning designs the week of the Show, so watch this space!”

RHET Chairman and RHASS Director, Hugh Mcclymont and RHASS Director, Aylett Roan completed the judging panel, with Amy Shaw from Seaways Services (UK) Ltd helping to judge the milk bottle design entries.

The winning pupils from each competition will each receive free tickets to the Show on Sunday 22nd June for their family and friends and receive a commemorative keep sake of their own design.
