The 178th Royal Highland Show, one of the UK's premier agricultural shows takes place 21-24 June 2018. With large numbers coming from the rest of the UK and Ireland, and ever more visitors from further afield, it exemplifies the very best of food, farming and rural life, attracting top quality pedigree livestock and horses from across the UK.
The Royal Highland Show is seen as a must-attend event for pedigree breeders who wish to showcase their stock. Competition is intense; winning a rosette is to be savoured, becoming a champion is something of which dreams are made - whilst Inter Breed Championships are the reward of a lifetime.
The Show is fortunate to have been awarded a large number of qualifying classes for the prestigious Horse of the Year Show; these qualifiers act as a magnet for many of the top names in the equine showing world.
In addition to the showing classes, we have competitions across a number of skills and disciplines, with many of the top British Show jumpers vying for the generous cash prizes on offer.
Allied to equestrian competitions we celebrate the skills of our Farriers, in the Show’s own Forge. The precision of creating and fitting a finely honed shoe from a bar of metal never ceases to amaze onlookers.
On the edible side we run competitions for Cheese, Butter and Ice Cream and for Honey. The Dairy Produce section attracts entries from small artisan producers as well as the large creameries. Awards in this section fall into Gold Silver and Bronze categories and are decided on by a select panel of experienced judges.
Within the Honey Marquee there is a significant educational element which is always a great draw for our many school groups. There are honey tastings in the marquee, but these do not include the entries in our honey cocktail class - some of which are distinctly alcoholic!
Another hugely popular site for visitors is the Poultry tent where fanciers bring a wide variety of fowl, some in glorious plumage, some in plainer attire, to compete across 115 classes which also include a variety of classes for the array of eggs entered each year, too.
